Floyd County Historical Society Padgett Museum

The Floyd County Historical Society was founded in 1916 to study the history of Floyd County, to collect and preserve artifacts, maps, papers, pictures and any other articles that describe or illustrate the social, religious, political or industrial progress of the County.

By the Rivers Edge

The museum features “By the Rivers Edge” a permanent exhibit that details New Albany and Floyd County history. It displays items as a land grant signed by Patrick Henry, the chain used to measure the original streets of New Albany and examples of New Albany glass and pottery.

Robert E. Lee

An original rope used to ring the bell on the famous Robert E. Lee steamboat as seen above. This steamboat was originally built in New Albany in 1866. The hull was designed by DeWitt Hill, and the riverboat cost more than $200,000 to build.
